NCCE Ga South Marks Citizenship Week with Digital Citizenship Education for School Pupils

The National Commission for Civic Education, Ga South Municipal Office, on Wednesday, 3 June 2026, engaged pupils of Saint Martin De Porres School and West Hills School within the Bortianor Ngleshie Amanfro Constituency as part of this year’s Citizenship Week celebration.

The engagement, held under the theme, “Upholding the Constitution in the Digital Age: Our Collective Responsibility,” brought together pupils and teachers for interactive discussions on constitutional values, responsible citizenship, and appropriate conduct in the digital space.

The program sought to deepen the learners’ understanding of the 1992 Constitution and encourage them to appreciate their role in safeguarding Ghana’s democratic principles. Participants were reminded that in an era of rapid information sharing through digital platforms, every citizen has a responsibility to use technology in ways that promote truth, accountability, respect, and national development.

Resource persons, Dan Abonyi Yamoah and Rita Dzifa Aklinu, took the pupils through various aspects of citizenship and constitutional responsibility. They emphasized the importance of obeying the laws of Ghana, respecting the rights of others, and exercising freedoms responsibly both online and offline.

The facilitators further noted that while digital technology presents numerous opportunities for learning, communication, and innovation, it also places a responsibility on users to act ethically and responsibly. Pupils were encouraged to think critically before sharing information online, avoid the spread of misinformation and disinformation, protect their personal data, and maintain respectful interactions on social media platforms.

The discussions also highlighted the importance of becoming responsible digital citizens who contribute positively to society and help create a culture of constructive online engagement.

Speaking during the sessions, the resource persons stressed that upholding the Constitution is a collective responsibility that extends beyond government institutions. They encouraged the pupils to understand their rights and responsibilities and to apply constitutional values in their daily lives, enabling them to become agents of positive change in their schools, homes, communities, and digital spaces.

The program formed part of the NCCE’s nationwide Citizenship Week celebration, which aims to promote civic consciousness and encourage active citizenship among schoolchildren across the country.
