NCCE Savannah region directorate engages immigration service on annual constitution week celebration.

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the Savannah region has successfully launched the 2023 Annual Constitution Week Celebration with engagements with the Ghana Immigration Service. The Annual Constitution Week was to commemorate Ghana’s return to Constitutional Democratic rule.

Significantly, on April 28th, 1992 Ghanaians voted at a Referendum to accept the draft Fourth Republican Constitution.

Mr. Issaka Zitor, the Regional Director. Said, the year 2023 marks Ghana’s thirty years of uninterrupted and stable constitutional rule in the history of the country. Again, he said the Annual Constitution Week which is being celebrated on the theme: ” Thirty Years of Consolidating Constitutional Democracy: Building National Cohesion through Civic Education and Participation in Local Governance”, is a good ground for Ghanaians to embrace the constitution.

He touted the achievement of Ghana’s uninterrupted and stable constitutional rule to include but not limited to periodic elections, peaceful change of government, smooth transitions, uninterrupted and stable constitutional rule, and respect for Human rights and the Rule of Law.

However, much as we tout the achievement, Ghana is faced with the following challenges: perception of corruption, threats from traditional sources such as land disputes, herder and farmer conflicts, chieftaincy succession conflicts, and growing mistrust between citizens and security agencies, the country is further threatened by the activities of violent extremist groups in the Sahel region especially our neighboring country such as Burkina Faso, Mali which have the possibility of spillover into Ghana. He admonished participants to study the 1992 Constitution and protect the peace and security of the country.

The District Level Assembly Elections in the past recorded low turnout and inadequate participation of women and Persons with Disability (PWDs). He urged citizens to support these groups into leadership positions to lead them to contribute towards sustainable growth and development.

Again, he admonished citizens to collaborate with security agencies through information sharing to prevent crime in the country.

ACI Micheal Akwesi Aborah, the regional commander for the Ghana Immigration Service, expressed appreciation for the education and admonished participants to be loyal and work to protect the Constitution and security of the country at all times. He also asked for citizen's support through information sharing to effectively combat crime in Ghana.
