NCCE engages youth in Korle Klottey Constituency on Participatory Democracy

The International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), in partnership with the National Commission for Civic Education, NCCE, organised a youth engagement with students at 2nd Image International College in Accra on responsible political participation and accountability as well as civic rights and responsibilities.

The lead facilitator, Mrs. Juliet Adima Amoah of IFES, took participants through a thorough discussion on the harms of misinformation, disinformation and hate speech, which creates confusion in public discourse, leads to misunderstandings and sometimes fuels violence during elections.

Mrs. Amoah further encouraged the students to study the Constitution and abreast themselves with current affairs to be informed in decision-making about election-related activities. Director for Research at the NCCE, Dr. Henrietta Asante-Sarpong also added that Ghana will lose a lot of international assistance and investors should there be chaos before, during, and after the 2024 General Elections. She also encouraged the students to apply tolerance in all their dealings and serve as peace ambassadors wherever they find themselves. Other resource persons took participants through corruption, unemployment, vote buying, vandalizing public property, and environmental degradation, among others.

The event was with support from the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and its partners, the Consortium for Elections and Political Process Strengthening (CEPPS), the International Republican Institute (IRI), and the National Democratic Institute (NDI).
