NCCE engages Peace Corps Ghana on Civic Matters

The Kpone Katamanso Municipal office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has engaged a group of Peace Corps volunteers on civic matters at Kpone Bawaleshie in Accra. The engagement aimed at training the volunteers on civic dispensation and the formation of Civic Education Clubs (CECs).

A Senior Civic Education Officer (SCO) of the Oyibi office of the NCCE, Miss Salvata M.Koku, who engaged the volunteers, explained the essence of the CEC to them since the majority of them would be posted to Junior High Schools in deprived communities in the country. She entreated them to help in advocating for the formation of CECs as a co-curricular activity in their various schools.

She stressed that civic education is an ongoing process that needs to be brought to the doorsteps of every Ghanaian in simple language for all to benefit. Miss Koku tasked them to bring to bear their expertise in teaching the youth to imbibe good values.

A programming and training specialist of the education sector of Peace Corps Ghana, Mr. Yussif Alhassan, lauded the Commission for its efforts to sensitise the citizenry on their civic duties and responsibilities. He also expressed gratitude to the NCCE for training the volunteers and hoped this collaboration would be a beneficial relationship to both institutions.

He stated that Peace Corps is an independent agency and programme of the United States government that trains and deploys volunteers to provide international development assistance.
