The Programmes Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Dr. Imurana Mohammed has engaged pupils of St. Martin De Porres School, Dansoman in Accra on national cohesion as part of the 2023 Citizenship Week Celebration. The theme for this year’s celebration is “ 30 Years of Consolidating Constitutional Democracy, Building National Cohesion: The Role of the Ghanaian Child”.
In his engagement, Dr. Mohammed stated that the celebration sought to inculcate in the pupils the values of good citizenship and remind them of their civic responsibilities and the role as agents of change to help build a strong and vibrant democratic Ghana.
He urged the pupils to be good children by obeying the elderly and obeying their school’s rules. He also explained the importance of unity, harmony, and peace in promoting national cohesion. He added that those were the foundations of obedience.
The Programmes Director implored the pupils not to fight one another, to respect the views of others, and be tolerant. He reiterated the need to respect the national symbols and uphold their relevance. Further, Dr. Mohammed encouraged the pupils to take their studies seriously.
The Club Activities Coordinator of St.Martin De Porres, Mr. Daniel K. Dadson, expressed gratitude to the NCCE for the commitment to instilling civic values in the in-school youth.
