NCCE Empowers Bono Youth Leaders on Ethical Leadership and Rule of Law

Mr. Peter K. Gyasi, Bono Regional Deputy Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has underscored the importance of ethical leadership and adherence to the rule of law in combating corruption and strengthening democratic governance.

He made the remarks during a Youth Leadership Empowerment Dialogue organized for student leaders from tertiary institutions across the Bono Region. The program at the Bank of Ghana Auditorium on the campus of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) in Sunyani.

Participants included executives of Civic Education Clubs, Student Representative Councils (SRCs), Junior Common Rooms (JCRs), the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), the Graduate Students' Association of Ghana (GRASAG), student political groups, and representatives of civil society organizations.

Mr. Gyasi explained that the dialogue sought to strengthen the capacity of youth leaders to promote transparency, accountability, ethical leadership, and respect for the rule of law within tertiary institutions and their communities.

He stressed that the rule of law remains one of the fundamental principles underpinning Ghana's 1992 Constitution and urged participants to uphold equality by treating all persons fairly and rejecting every form of discrimination.

Speaking on ethical leadership, Mr. Gyasi identified integrity and honesty, accountability, fairness and justice, transparency, and respect and compassion as the core pillars of ethical leadership. He noted that ethical leadership, like the rule of law, is the cornerstone of democratic governance because it prevents the abuse of power, promotes public trust, and safeguards institutional integrity.

He encouraged the student leaders to serve as role models and agents of positive change in their institutions and communities by demonstrating integrity and promoting responsible leadership.

The Dean of Students at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), Professor Simon Abugri, who officially opened the dialogue, commended the NCCE for organizing the program to equip young people with the knowledge and values required for effective leadership.

Professor Abugri urged the students to take advantage of such training opportunities to develop the skills, knowledge, competencies, and abilities needed to prepare them for future leadership roles and contribute meaningfully to Ghana's democratic development.
