NCCE Educates Inchaban Deaf JHS Learners on Online Safety and Cyberbullying

The Western Regional Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) on Thursday, 11th June 2026, sensitized learners and facilitators of the School for the Deaf Junior High School at Inchaban on online safety and cyberbullying as part of activities marking the 2026 Citizenship Week Celebration.

The sensitization program was led by the Deputy Regional Director of the NCCE, Mr. Lan Kwame Tugbenu, under the theme: “Growing Up Digital: The Ghanaian Child Upholding the Constitution Online.”

Addressing the participants, Mr. Tugbenu explained that the Citizenship Week Celebration is one of the flagship annual programs of the NCCE aimed at educating young people on their civic responsibilities and national values. He noted that this year’s celebration focused on Junior High Schools across the country.

He encouraged the learners to use digital platforms responsibly as they increasingly access the internet to improve their studies and daily lives. According to him, before sharing information online, users must ask themselves critical questions such as: “Is it true?”, “Is it respectful?”, and “Could it harm someone or mislead others?”

Mr. Tugbenu also advised the hearing-impaired learners to be mindful of their safety and the rights of others while using social media and communication platforms such as Facebook, WhatsApp, Telegram, video telephony, email, and SMS. He urged them to report any form of online threat or abuse to the police or responsible authorities.

As part of the program, the Western Regional Director of the NCCE, Mr. Andrews Ofori Larbi, presented two copies of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana to the school to support civic education among the students.

Officials present at the program included the Regional Director of the NCCE, the Assistant Headteacher of the school, and officers from the Effia-Westminster and Shama Directorates of the NCCE.
