The Ga Central Municipal Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) joined the global celebration of World Environment Day 2026 by organizing an environmental education program for selected basic schools within the municipality.
The event brought together students, teachers, staff of the Environmental Health Department of the Ga Central Municipal Assembly, and officers of the Ga Central NCCE.
The resource person for the program, Miss Vera Boatemaa Boadi from the Environmental Health Department, engaged learners from participating schools, including Royal Crown School and Stepping Stone Montessori School.
The celebration aimed to promote environmental sustainability and raise awareness among students about the effects of climate change on the environment.
During her presentation, Miss Boadi educated the learners on the importance of the 3Rs—Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. She highlighted the growing challenge of plastic pollution and explained how improper disposal of plastic waste can negatively impact the environment and public health.
She encouraged the students to adopt environmentally friendly practices and emphasized that, despite their young age, they can play a significant role in protecting and sustaining the environment. She urged them to promote environmental cleanliness, educate others on proper waste management, and avoid indiscriminate disposal of waste in their communities.
The Municipal Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Madam Mary Dagbah, highlighted the significance of the theme, "Climate Action." She emphasized that young people have a critical role to play in building climate-resilient communities and safeguarding the environment for future generations.
The program ended with a call on all participants to become ambassadors of environmental protection and contribute to creating a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable future.
