The Berekum West District Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education has engaged SAA NTI and MAN GOD Information Centres in Jinijini to sensitise community members on the responsible use of digital platforms as part of activities marking the 2026 Constitution Week Celebration.
The sensitisation programme was held under the theme, “Upholding Our Constitution in a Digital Age: Our Collective Responsibility.” The theme highlights the need for citizens to uphold constitutional values not only in physical spaces, but also in their online interactions.
Speaking during the engagement, Mr. Dari of the NCCE explained that the digital space has become an important platform for communication, access to information, business promotion, learning, and the sharing of ideas. He noted that while social media and other digital platforms offer many benefits, users must exercise caution and responsibility in the type of content they create, post, share, or forward.
Mr. Dari cautioned the public against the spread of misinformation and disinformation, stressing that false information can mislead communities, damage reputations, create fear, and undermine peaceful coexistence. He urged citizens to verify information from credible sources before sharing it, especially when dealing with sensitive public issues.
He further advised young people to be mindful of their activities on social media, explaining that content posted online can have lasting effects on their reputation and future opportunities. According to him, even when posts are deleted, digital footprints may remain and could be traced.
Community members were encouraged to uphold the values of the 1992 Constitution by respecting the rights and dignity of others online, avoiding cyberbullying and abusive comments, and contributing positively to the digital space.
The programme formed part of the Commission’s ongoing efforts to educate citizens on their civic responsibilities, promote responsible digital citizenship, and encourage informed participation in Ghana’s democratic development.
