As part of the 2026 Constitution Week Celebration, the Tolon District office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has engaged pupils of Irshadiyya E/A Primary School on responsible digital citizenship under the theme “Upholding our Constitution in the Digital Age: Our Collective Responsibility” and the sub-theme *“Growing up Digital: The Ghanaian Child Upholding the Constitution Online.”
The engagement was led by Mr. Musah Fuseini, who used the opportunity to educate pupils on both the benefits and risks of internet use. He explained that the internet can support learning by helping pupils with assignments, exposing them to new subject areas, and improving their digital literacy. However, he also cautioned that the online space comes with significant risks, including exposure to pornography, cyberbullying, sexual exploitation, and gambling.
He further highlighted the rights of children in the digital space while stressing that these rights must be matched with responsibilities. According to him, pupils are expected to respect others online, speak out against abuse, share accurate information, and protect their personal data. He emphasized that responsible digital behavior is essential for their safety and future well-being.
Mr. Fuseini also outlined the objectives of the Citizenship Week celebration, noting that it seeks to strengthen children’s understanding of their rights and responsibilities both online and offline, while also raising awareness of online risks such as cyberbullying, digital fraud, and misinformation.
Expressing concern, he bemoaned the growing trend of children posting nude images online, warning that such actions can damage their personal reputation and affect their families in the future. He therefore urged pupils to avoid such irresponsible behavior and to make wise decisions when using digital platforms.
School authorities commended the NCCE for the initiative and expressed their readiness to collaborate in future civic education engagements aimed at shaping responsible and informed young citizens.
