PROTECT AND DEFEND THE 1992 CONSTITUTION AGAINST ALL FORMS OF ABUSE AND VIOLATION - NCCE

The Atiwa East District Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has engaged some residents of the Abakoase Community to mark the 2023 Constitution Week Celebration. This year’s Constitution Week celebration is under the theme; “Thirty Years of Consolidating Constitutional Democracy: Building National Cohesion through Civic Education and Participating in Local Governance’’.

The NCCE officers urged the individuals to protect and defend the Constitution against all forms of abuse and violation and endeavor to live in harmony to promote national cohesion and unity.

An Assistant Civic Education Officer, ACEO, Henrietta Antwi said the 1992 Constitution is the only Constitution that has lasted for the longest time in the political history of Ghana. She mentioned the protection and preservation of fundamental human rights and freedoms, the rule of law, media freedoms and the provision of equal opportunity for all citizens in the areas of education, health, and social justice among others as some of the profits gained from the 1992 Constitution.

She also touched on the upcoming District Level Elections and appealed to the community to actively participate in this year’s local elections. She urged them to get involved to elect people who will facilitate local development and improve local governance at the district level. She encouraged groups such as women, youth, and persons with disability to offer themselves as candidates in the local elections. This she believes will ensure inclusive participation in local governance.

Similar engagements were carried out with traders, shop owners, and taxi drivers, among other groups in the Abakoase Community.
