The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has launched an awareness-raising campaign to whip up citizens’ interest in the upcoming District Level Elections (DLEs) and referendum to amend Article 55(3) of the 1992 Constitution in Nalerigu in the North East Region. The campaign forms part of NCCE’s strategy to encourage citizens to take part in the upcoming DLEs and referendum.
The NCCE’s Commission Secretary, Mr. Tito Voegborlor, said the 17 th December 2019 DLEs and referendum would require that citizens vote to elect Unit Committee and Assembly Members and also to vote ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ to either endorse the amendment of Article 55(3) to allow the participation of political parties in District Level Elections. He encouraged electorates to come out in their numbers to vote in this year’s DLEs and a national referendum.
The Deputy Chief Director of the North East Region, Mr. Abdulai Musah Chimsi, reinforced the Government’s commitment to the process by its support to the NCCE campaign through the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.
Alhaji Abdul Razak Saani, the Northern Regional Director of NCCE and Acting Regional Director for North East Region urged citizens to join the campaign and actively participate in the exercise.
