An engagement with youth groups in the Eastern Region on prevention of violence extremism

An engagement with youth groups in the Eastern Region on prevention of violence extremism and the need to stand up for peace and national unity was insightful and a success. NCCE with support from the Ministry of National Security has begun public education in selected border communities to highlight the dangers that activities of violent extremists pose to Ghana's peace and security.

The Deputy Chairman in charge of Operations at NCCE, Mr. Samuel Asare Akuamoah did not mince words when he charged citizens of Ghana to expose groups or individuals who are drivers of violence extremism. Mr. Akuamoah was concerned about the need for all well-meaning Ghanaians to safeguard the country's peace. "Be bold and report crime and suspicious characters to the Ghana Police Service and other security agencies. They will protect you as a whistleblower. We must protect our country from violent extremists. Be a citizen vigilante, look within your communities and report infiltrators who want to undermine the peace and security of this country", he charged.

The Eastern Regional National Security Coordinator, Colonel Michael Boampong (Rtd) was also at the event. He took participants through a National Security Strategy and a National Framework to counter violence extremism and terrorism in Ghana. He called for deliberate and sustained public education and awareness to prevent violence extremism in Ghana.

The events took place at Asuoyaman, Atimpoku and Yilo Krobo.
