Jaman South NCCE Intensifies Campaign Against Child Online Abuse in Senior High Schools

The Jaman South Municipal Directorate of the NCCE has undertaken a series of educational campaigns in selected Senior High Schools within the municipality to address the growing menace of child online abuse and harassment in the digital age.

As part of the initiative, the Municipal Director, Mr. Emmanuel Ouro, engaged students of Our Lady of Providence Girls Senior High School, where he underscored both the benefits and dangers associated with internet usage. He noted that while the internet serves as a powerful tool for communication and learning, the misuse of the internet exposes young people to serious risks, including online abuse and harassment.

Mr. Oduro explained that the campaign seeks to empower students with the knowledge and skills to identify signs of online abuse, understand how harassment occurs, and become familiar with the appropriate reporting channels. He also acknowledged the strides Ghana has made through the enactment of child protection laws and policies, urging students to take advantage of these legal safeguards to secure their wellbeing and future.

In a related interaction, Mr. Matthew Kofi Dzoboku, a Civic Education Officer with the Jaman South NCCE Directorate, encouraged students to remain focused on their academic work and actively participate in school activities as part of their personal development. He further advised students to adopt safe and responsible online habits at all times.

Mr. Dzoboku also appealed to parents and guardians to closely monitor their wards’ online activities in order to protect them from potential dangers associated with internet use.

The campaign forms part of NCCE’s broader mandate to promote civic awareness and protect the rights and welfare of children, particularly in the rapidly evolving digital environment.
