Engagement with Ghana National Tailors and Dressmakers Association on Cyberbullying

The Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has kick-started a public education campaign against cyberbullying with a sensitisation programme for members of the Ghana National Tailors and Dressmakers Association (GNTDA).

The session, held at the Kwesimintsim Community Centre, focused on the responsible use of the internet and social media, with particular emphasis on the growing menace of cyberbullying.

Addressing participants, an Assistant Director of the Commission, Mr. Yusif Usman, explained that the widespread use of social media platforms has created avenues for anonymous communication, often emboldening individuals to bully others under fake identities.

He noted that factors such as peer pressure, jealousy, anger, revenge, and lack of parental supervision contribute significantly to the rise of cyberbullying.

Mr. Usman further highlighted common forms of cyberbullying, including harassment, impersonation, rumour-spreading, and the posting of embarrassing content.

Ending his presentation, he urged participants to be vigilant, responsible, and proactive in protecting themselves and others from online abuse.
