NCCE, Rotary Club join forces at Agbogbloshie

To prevent the further spread of COVID-19, the NCCE has in a joint collaboration with the Rotary Club of Ghana distributed over 2,000 pieces of reusable facemasks to some residents and market women at Old Fadama (Agbogbloshie).

Considering the fact that not everyone can afford the facemask in the community, the Rotary Club organised the donation of the facemask in conjunction with the NCCE which sensitised the public on proper ways to wear the face mask as well as other COVID-19 safety measures.

Madam Rosemary Puni, Accra – Ring Road Central President Ghana, said the support was in line with their efforts to reach out to the less privileged in society who cannot afford the facemask.

Stating that COVID-19 is real, she urged the public not to take it for a joke but to observe the protocols of handwashing with soap under running water, keep physical distance and pay attention to NCCE messages.

The Deputy Chair in-charge of Finance and Administration, NCCE, Ms. Kathleen Addy, expressed delight at the collaboration, which she said offers the Commission a wonderful opportunity to increase awareness creation on the COVID-19 safety protocol to a more diverse population at Agbogbloshie.

Commending organisers for the way the distribution was done, she stated that the exercise gave the NCCE an opportunity to demonstrate to the people on how to wear the facemask, how to take them off and help people to know the essence of wearing the facemask in these COVID-19 times.

Ms. Addy also noted that the Government support and donation received from COVID-19 National Trust Fund, has really boosted the Commission’s work throughout the country.

She said although the Commission’s messages on the safety protocols have reached every community in the country, achieving behavior change takes time, but added that the intensification of campaigns, coupled with efforts including the sharing of facemask helps to drive the desired outcome.
