Women Empowered to Champion Integrity and Fight Corruption in Their Communities

Women in Begoro have been encouraged to speak up against corruption, defend their rights, and promote accountability as part of efforts to build transparent and responsible communities.

The Fanteakwa District Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) held a follow-up educational engagement at the Apostolic Church Hall in Bethlehem, Begoro, to strengthen women’s capacity to combat corruption, promote accountability, and uphold the Rule of Law.

The engagement brought together participants from the initial educational campaign, alongside representatives of women’s associations and peer-support groups, to reflect on lessons learned, share experiences and discuss challenges encountered in applying their knowledge.

Through interactive discussions, practical case studies and experience-sharing, participants explored ways to address bribery, harassment, discrimination and abuse of authority. They also deepened their understanding of their rights, legal protections and available reporting mechanisms, including the roles of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) and the Office of the Special Prosecutor.

Furthermore, the engagement emphasized the importance of strengthening peer-support networks, participating actively in community decision-making and reporting wrongdoing through the appropriate channels. Participants were also encouraged to educate others on the values of integrity, transparency and accountability.

To sustain the impact of the campaign, participants were encouraged to develop individual and collective action plans to translate the knowledge acquired into practical action within their communities.

The engagement forms part of the NCCE’s efforts to promote civic awareness, strengthen public accountability and encourage active citizen participation in upholding the Rule of Law.

The programme was organized by the NCCE’s Fanteakwa District Office in partnership with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), with funding from the European Union and partners.
