WE MUST USE CONSTITUTIONAL PROCESS TO BUILD UNITY AND COHESION – NCCE DEPUTY CHAIRMAN

The Deputy Chairman in charge of Operations at the National Commission for Civic Education, Mr. Samuel Asare Akuamoah, has urged Ghanaians to use all processes provided for in the 1992 Constitution to address incidents threatening the unity and cohesion of the country. Addressing officers of the Ghana Prisons Service as part of the Commission’s 2021 Constitution Week celebration under the theme “We are one, Ghana First”, Mr. Akuamoah said, the 1992 Constitution of Ghana makes provision for processes in building unity and cohesion in this country therefore it should be a guide for citizens in handling issues that threaten national cohesion and security. He stated three activities that can pose a threat to national security; activities of secessionist moment, violence extremism and issues of ethnicity. According to him, these possible threats must be forestalled.

The NCCE, he said, has a special theme for the security services thus “Unity and Cohesion, the Role of National Security Services” and this has been the focus of the Commission’s engagements with the services. Mr. Akuamoah presented copies of 1992 Constitution to the Ghana Prisons Service.

A Chief Superintendent at the Ghana Prisons Service, CSP Courage Atsem thanked the NCCE for the Constitution Week engagement and gave the assurance that the Service will live up to their mandate in effectively collaborating with other Security Services to promote unity and cohesion for national development.
