THE MAIDEN QUIZ COMPETITION BETWEEN SECURITY AGENCIES LAUNCHED AT THE TEMA METROPOLITAN OFFICE OF THE NCCE

The Tema Metropolitan Office (TMO) of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) as part of activities marking the NCCE’s 2023 Constitution Week Celebration (CWC), organized its maiden quiz competition for five Security Agencies in the Tema Metropolis. The activity took place on the 19th of May, 2023, on the theme; Thirty Years of Consolidating Constitutional Democracy, Building National Cohesion through Civic Education, and Participation in Local Governance. The security agencies that participated in the competition included the Ghana Navy; Eastern Naval Command, Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), Ghana Police Service (GPS), and the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority.

The quiz competition which was supported by the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) was aimed at promoting the study of the 1992 Constitution among the security personnel and to ensure tolerance, unity, and cooperation among them and civilians towards the sustenance of Ghana’s maturing democracy.

In all, seventy (70) questions were asked altogether within four (4) rounds. Questions were drawn from tenets of the 1992 Constitution and current affairs. After an exciting and competitive proceeding, Ghana National Fire Service emerged as the winner with forty-nine (49) points, followed by Ghana Immigration Service with forty-four (44) points to occupy the second position, and the third position was grabbed by the Ghana Navy with forty-three (43) points. The fourth and fifth positions went to the Ghana Police Service and Customs Division of the GRA respectively.

Plaques were awarded as prizes to the first to third-placed security agencies, and their contestants received a Certificate of Honor. Whereas, Certificates of participation were presented to all contestants. Each participating security agency received copies of the 1992 Constitution.

The programme was chaired by Nana Ogyedom Ama Tsetse I, Osumpahen of Gomoa Akyempim Traditional Council in the Central Region. She was supported by the Dean of Presiding Members in Ghana, Hon. Joseph Korto who is the Presiding Member of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly, Hon. Ebenezer Cudjoe, Director of NADMO, Tema Metro, and Madam Gifty Agyeiwaa Badu; Tema Metro Director of the NCCE.
