“My First Day in School” is a flagship program of the GES observed annually on the first day of the new academic year to welcome children entering Kindergarten and attending school for the first time.
The initiative seeks to make the children’s first experience of school memorable while encouraging them to develop a positive attitude towards education and attend school regularly.
As part of the celebration, Assistant Civic Education Officer (ACEO), Madam Narimua Yakubu Alijata, joined Mr. Mustapha Grumah, other GES officials and teachers to welcome the new pupils to school.
The pupils were presented with biscuits and toffees as part of activities to make their first day enjoyable and memorable.
Madam Alijata and the GES officials also used the opportunity to encourage pupils to be disciplined, punctual and committed to their education. They urged them to listen to their teachers and cultivate good habits both in school and at home.
The schools and communities visited included Bandei, Sakalu, Sakai ‘A’, Sakai ‘B’, Sakai Islamic, Nankpawie and Dangi Basic Schools.
The collaboration formed part of efforts by the NCCE and GES to promote education, discipline and responsible citizenship among children from an early age.
