Reconstitution of District Oversight Committee in the Cape Coast Metropolis

The Cape Coast Metropolitan Directorate of the NCCE successfully reconstituted its District Oversight Committee (DoC) to strengthen local governance and promote civic responsibility. The reconstituted committee members began with an in-depth briefing on the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), focusing on its formation and significance in fostering good governance and sustainable development. Key aspects discussed included:

  • Mission Statement: Emphasising the APRM's commitment to promote democracy, accountability and sound governance practices
  • Objectives: Highlighting the mechanism's targeted outcomes, including fostering transparency and engaging citizens in national development
  • Membership: Defining the roles of committee members and their contributions to the APRM’s success
  • Criteria for Membership: Establishing the qualifications required for individuals to serve on the DoC, ensuring representation of diverse interests
  • Composition of Membership: Ensuring a balance of perspectives and expertise within the committee to achieve inclusivity
  • Responsibilities and Functions: Outlining the duties of the DoC, including monitoring governance initiatives and serving as a link between the community and national institutions

The reconstitution of the DoC reaffirms the NCCE’s commitment to fostering civic education and engagement within the Cape Coast Metropolis. By strengthening the DoC’s framework and aligning it with the principles of the APRM, the NCCE aims to enhance citizen participation, accountability, and transparency in local governance.

This initiative forms part of a broader effort to uphold Ghana’s democratic values and ensure that all citizens contribute meaningfully to the nation’s growth and development through active participation and oversight.
