The Asutifi North Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has organized its Parliamentary Candidates’ Dialogue, augmenting the Commission’s nationwide effort to provide a platform for parliamentary candidates to interact with their constituents and present their development intervention proposals to them.
Speaking to the audience, Chairman of the event, Osaberima Kwadwo Danquah Osiakwan II, intimated that peace is a priceless commodity and, as such, must be jealously guarded. He also warned the youth to abstain from being used as channels and tools to perpetrate violence.
At the function, the District Electoral Officer, Mrs. Franklina Osei-Assibey, disclosed that the District has taken receipt of its election materials, indicating the office’s readiness to peacefully and transparently conduct the elections. She also demonstrated the processes of casting a ballot to the attendees.
Addressing the gathering, the various competing parliamentary candidates took turns to highlight their ideologies to the gathering, with each riding on the platform to canvass for votes to be cast in their favour. While assuring their commitment to peace, they also added their voice to the call for a violent-free elections.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Inter-Party Dialogue Committee (IPDC), Mr. Paul Ankan, commended the NCCE for such a brilliant initiative, calling for the regular organization of such events in order to promote accountability.
Present at the Dialogue were very key elections stakeholders, including traditional authorities, District Police officers, Electoral Commission officials, staff members of CHRAJ and the District Education Office, heads of socio-economic groups, as well as students and teachers of some second cycle institutions._
