The Member of Parliament(MP) for the Korle-Klotey Constituency Dr. Zenator Rawlings has advised students to eschew laziness and focus on their studies to enable them achieve their future aspirations.
She made the call when she addressed members of Tegbi Afedome Basic School Civic Education Club(CEC) in parliament house.
The MP who is also a daughter of former President Rawlings was excited to meet the members of the Club from Anlo Constituency who were in Parliament to learn at first hand the workings of Parliament.
Hon Dr Zenator admonished the pupils to understand that the “heights that great had reached was not through sudden flight but rather through discipline, hard work, persistence, perseverance and dedication to studies”.
She said, laziness and procrastination was the number one downfall of a lot of students and urged them to rather seek for knowledge in all their endeavours.
Dr. Zenator recounting how she was able to achieve her current status admonished them study hard and make good use of their time to enable them achieve their dreams.
She charged the female students among them to control their sexual instinct and be motivated by the achievement of women in higher place in the country to strive for the best at all times.
Earlier Hon Clement Kofi Humado, the Member of Parliament for Anlo constituency, the constituency where the school is located welcomed the students to the House. In an address, the Honourable Member congratulated NCCE for the educational tour and said it was a good thing for the youth to acquaint themselves with information about workings of Parliament.
He advised the students to be wary of bad friends and bad habits that could derail them of their future development. Hon. Humado lamented on the indiscriminate abuse of drugs by the youth, especially in-school youth who are the future leaders of the nation with impunity and called on the students to stay away from hard drugs.
He mentioned alcoholism and smoking of Indian hemps popularly known as “Wee”as the most abused drugs in the country adding they should not be deceived into believing that the use of Indian hemp could enhance a student’s study and enable him perform better in class.

Hon Clement Humado also complained bitterly about the increasing rate of teenage pregnancy in the basic schools and called on females’ students to desist from early sex, adding that early sex could result in affect the health of young girls and expose them to serious injuries and untimely death..
The pupils also visited the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation(GBC), where they learned about how news is transmitted through the air waves. They also visited Asomdwe Park, where the late Pro. John Evans Fifi Atta Mills was buried and Ohene Gyan Sport Stadium, Accra.
In all a total of ninety-nine pupils and six teachers benefit from the day’s educational tour.
