PARENTS AND GUARDIANS SHOULD ENGAGE THEIR WARDS ON SEX EDUCATION-NCCE

The Fanteakwa South District Office of the National Commission for Civic Education, NCCE has urged parents and guardians to engage their wards on sex education. The district office gave this advice at a graduation ceremony at Kwampaw Preparatory School. Speaking on the theme "Combating Teenage Pregnancy in School: Challenges and Prospects”, the Assistant Civic Education Officer, Mr. Patrick Addo highlighted the effects of teenage pregnancy on the socio-economic growth of the country and cautioned parents to ensure their teenage girls don’t become victims of such circumstance.

Mr. Addo reiterated that parents should be deliberate in starting conversations with their children on such topics. He added that most teenage girls get pregnant because of a lack of information on such issues and peer pressure from friends. He advised parents to desist from giving their children who are of school-going age, out for marriage because it is detrimental to their education as well as their reproductive health.
