NCCE WARNS THE KWAHU SOUTH DISTRICT AGAINST BUSH FIRES

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in Kwahu South, Mpraeso in the Eastern region has collaborated with the Forestry Commission, Ghana National Fire Service, Information Services Department, and National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) on fire safety and the need to protect the environment as enshrined in1992 Constitution of Ghana, Chapter 6, Article 41 (k). Their joint efforts aimed to educate communities, schools, lorry stations, and market centers on fire safety during the dry season, with a focus on adhering to fire safety guidelines.

From January 1, 2024, to January 15, 2024, the team engaged 24 communities, including Oboum, Ntomem, Subinso, Gyaekasa, Ntobiase, Odotorkorkor, Bepong, Mpraeso, Atibie, Odeweanoma, Twenedurase, Obo, Obomeng, Nsuta, Akokobenumnsuo, Kwahu Praso, Mframa, Osubeng, Adawso, Nkyenenkyene, and Pitiku.

Farmers received a cautionary message against burning their farms instead of weeding, emphasizing the importance of good agricultural practices.

Parents were also advised not to leave cooking food unattended to ensure overall safety. This initiative was led by Civic Education Officer, Mr. Benjamin Baah and Mr Nii Kwei Kussachin.
