The Bodi District Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has organized a one-day engagement to empower women to speak up against corruption, abuse of office and violations of the rule of law.The event brought together fifty women drawn from various women’s groups and stakeholders across the district.
The engagement was facilitated by Mr. Emmanuel Awotwe, Bodi’s District Director of the NCCE, and Mr. Isaac Ofori of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ). Mr. Awotwe highlighted the crucial role of women in promoting accountability and good governance, noting that corruption and abuse of office affect women disproportionately. He encouraged participants to report corrupt practices and to participate actively in local governance.
For his part, Mr. Isaac Ofori educated participants on their rights, the mandate of CHRAJ, and the proper channels for reporting corruption as well as abuse of power and human rights violations. He assured them of confidentiality and protection when they report. Participants were taken through the principles of rule of law, transparency, and civic responsibility, and were urged to be ambassadors in the fight against corruption in their communities. The program was co-funded by the European Union (EU) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) under the anti-corruption and rule of law project.
