The NCCE Upper East regional Drector, Mr. Mawuli Agbenu said that the consultative meeting sought to deliberate on potential areas and methods of collaboration to ensure peace before, during, and after the 2024 General Election, adding that the meeting also provided the opportunity to address other security concerns within the region.
“This year being an election year and the region being considered a security risk zone due to its numerous security challenges and its proximity to Burkina Faso, which is experiencing violent extremism and terrorism, the Commission’s regional office deems it necessary to collaborate with the Ghana Police to intensify its public and civic engagements on religious and political tolerance, peace, and national cohesion ahead of the 2024 general election," she stated.
The Upper East Regional Commander of Police, Raymond Wejong Ali Adofiem, on his part, has assured readiness to work closely with the Commission to carry out its public education to ensure free, fair, transparent and peaceful elections in the Region. He underscored the importance of continued sensitization of the people to ensure that ignorance, which the extremists exploit to radicalize and recruit them, is eradicated.
