As activities marking the 2026 Citizenship Week Celebration (CWC) continued across the country, the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) Kintampo North Municipal Office extended its outreach to Babatokuma, where pupils of Darul-Hadith Islamic Primary and Junior High School were educated on responsible digital citizenship and constitutional values.
The civic education session, led by the Municipal Civic Education Officer, Mr. Alhassan Osumanu, formed part of the nationwide celebration under the theme, “Upholding Our Constitution in the Digital Age: Our Collective Responsibility,” with a special focus on the sub-theme, *“Growing Up Digital: The Ghanaian Child Upholding the Constitution Online.”
Addressing the pupils, Mr. Osumanu encouraged them to reflect on how they use digital platforms and the role they can play in promoting responsible online behavior. He explained that the rights and responsibilities enshrined in Ghana’s 1992 Constitution, particularly Article 41, apply not only in physical interactions but also in digital spaces.
The session focused on the responsible use of social media, the dangers of sharing unverified information, and the importance of treating others with dignity and respect online. Pupils actively participated in discussions, sharing their experiences with digital platforms and examining how online activities can affect individuals and communities.
Mr. Osumanu also engaged the pupils on issues such as cyberbullying, online fraud, misinformation, and disinformation. He urged them to verify information before sharing it and to be mindful of the potential consequences of harmful online content.
The interactive nature of the program allowed participants to discuss challenges they encounter online, including peer pressure to forward messages without checking their authenticity. Through practical examples drawn from everyday community life, pupils gained a better understanding of how constitutional values can guide their conduct in the digital world.
As part of the sensitization exercise, pupils were encouraged to become ambassadors of responsible digital behavior within their homes and communities. They were also informed of their right to seek support from trusted adults and relevant authorities when confronted with harmful online experiences.
The NCCE expressed appreciation to the management, staff, and pupils of Darul-Hadith Islamic Primary and JHS for their warm reception and active participation. The Commission noted that taking civic education directly to communities remains essential in ensuring that every Ghanaian child, regardless of location, is equipped to uphold constitutional values both offline and online.
The Babat Okuma engagement formed part of the broader Citizenship Week Celebration aimed at nurturing informed, responsible, and digitally conscious citizens across the country.
