NCCE SOUTH DAYI MARKS CITIZENSHIP WEEK AT PEKI DZOGBATI WITH CALL FOR RESPONSIBLE CITIZEN

The South Dayi District Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has held a Citizenship Week Celebration engagement with pupils of Peki Dzogbati D/A Basic School.

The event brought together staff of the South Dayi District Directorate of the NCCE and the Deputy Chairperson of the Commission in charge of Operations, Mr. Samuel Asare Akuamoah.

Addressing the pupils, Mr. Akuamoah emphasized the importance of educating children, especially girls, on cyber safety and responsible digital conduct. He cautioned them against misinformation, disinformation, cyberbullying, and the sharing of inappropriate materials online.

He further encouraged the pupils to take their studies seriously, remain disciplined, and focus on building a brighter future.

The South Dayi District Director of the NCCE, Mr. Mathias Senam Segbefia, also spoke on the need for pupils to become responsible citizens both online and offline. He explained that the Citizenship Week Celebration is one of the Commission’s flagship programs designed to shape young people into responsible and duty-conscious citizens, as required by the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.

Mr. Segbefia referenced Article 41 of the Constitution, which outlines the duties of citizens, and urged the pupils to uphold these responsibilities in their homes, schools, communities, and digital spaces.

A Senior Civic Education Officer, Mr. Raymond Akposoe, also advised the pupils to be law-abiding, respectful, and responsible wherever they find themselves. He encouraged them to obey rules and regulations and contribute positively to society.

In his closing remarks, the Headteacher of Peki Dzogbati D/A Basic School, Mr. Maurice Selase Hi, expressed appreciation to the Deputy Chairperson and staff of the NCCE for their continuous engagement with the school. He pledged the school’s readiness to collaborate with the Commission to promote discipline and nurture responsible citizens.

The Citizenship Week Celebration is expected to continue in other schools across the South Dayi District throughout the month of June.
