The Sissala West District Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has intensified civic engagements with identifiable groups as part of activities marking the 2026 Constitution Week Celebration under the theme, “Upholding the Constitution in the Digital Age: Our Collective Responsibility.”
The engagements were held throughout the week in communities within the district and involved groups such as the Jafanli Women Group, Tanjiabelle Women Group, Gwollu Christian Mothers Association, and members of the Catholic Church in Gwollu.
The sensitization program aimed to educate participants on the importance of protecting and respecting the 1992 Constitution in today’s rapidly evolving digital environment. Facilitators highlighted how technology, social media, and online communication can influence democracy, human rights, peace, and national unity.
Mr. Nasare Alhassan and Mr. Francis Assisi, who facilitated the engagements, explained that the 1992 Constitution remains Ghana's supreme law, guaranteeing freedom, justice, equality, and the rights of every citizen. They noted, however, that the misuse of digital platforms through misinformation, cyberbullying, hate speech, online fraud, and the spread of false information poses a threat to constitutional values and social harmony.
The facilitators further emphasized the important role women and religious institutions play in promoting responsible behavior within families and communities. Participants were therefore encouraged to verify information before sharing it online, respect others' opinions and rights, and refrain from spreading false or inflammatory content that could cause fear, violence, or division.
At the end of the engagements, participants reaffirmed their commitment to upholding the 1992 Constitution by promoting peace, combating misinformation, protecting democratic values, strengthening social cohesion, and contributing to a united society.
