NCCE, Police Sensitise GPRTU Members on New Road Traffic Regulations (LI 2519) and Child Trafficking

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) and the Ghana Police Service have sensitised members of the Ghana Private Roads and Transport Union (GPRTU) on the new Legislative Instrument (LI) 2519, Road Traffic Regulations 2026.

The NCCE team was led by the Western Regional Director, Mr Andrews Ofori Larbi, while the Police team from the Takoradi Divisional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) was led by Corporal Nakojah.

The engagement aimed to help drivers and transport operators understand the provisions of the new regulations, their responsibilities under the law, and the consequences of non-compliance.

Members of the Union were encouraged to adhere strictly to the new road traffic rules, drive responsibly, and help to promote safety on the nation's roads. The 88 drivers who participated, were also urged to share what they learnt with their colleagues who could not attend the programme.

The NCCE also raised the role drivers must play in eradicating child trafficking. Because transport operators move people daily across towns and regions, the Commission urged members to be vigilant, to refuse to carry children whose travel looks suspicious, and to promptly report any such case to the Police or other relevant authorities.

The NCCE reiterated its commitment to working with the Ghana Police Service and other stakeholders to educate the public on laws and regulations that promote discipline, safety and responsible citizenship.

The Commission believes that an informed transport sector is key to reducing road crashes and ensuring a safer environment for all road users.
