The Office of the National Commission for Civic Education in South Tongu Municipality has held its Parliamentary Candidates’ Dialogue in tandem with efforts of the Commission to provide an avenue where candidates are brought as close as possible to the electorates.
In an opening remark, Director of the South Tongu Municipal Office of NCCE, Mr. Seth Fiagorme, briefed the audience on the underpinning concept behind the dialogue, indicating that it is aimed at promoting transparency, accountability, political tolerance, and peaceful coexistence as the country gears up to roll out processes in electing Members of Parliament and the Head of the State.
Sharing their ideologies and blueprint for the development of the constituency, parliamentary candidates present took turns to address the attendees, with each highlighting their track record and potentials to deem them as fit to take up the mantle of member of parliament.
Chairman of the occasion, who doubles as Chair of the Inter-Party Dialogue Committee (IPDC), Reverend Robert Sedo, sent out an appeal to the constituents to, as much as possible, endeavour to be tolerant of one another irrespective of the divergence in opinions and preferences. This, according to him, will strengthen peaceful coexistence.
The event was graced with the participation of other staff of other sister institutions, including the EC, Municipal Assembly, as well as officers of the security services such as the Police and the Immigration.
