The Nandom Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has engaged the public through a radio discussion on Nandom FM as part of activities marking the 2026 Annual Citizenship Week Celebration.
The engagement, held on Thursday, 11th June 2026, featured members of the Civic Education Club (CEC) of St. Andrews Junior High School. The pupils used the platform to educate listeners on the need to uphold the 1992 Constitution in the digital age.
The programme was held under the Commission’s broad theme: “Upholding Our Constitution in the Digital Age: Our Collective Responsibility,” and the sub-theme: “Growing Up Digital: The Ghanaian Child Upholding the Constitution Online.”
During the discussion, the CEC members emphasized that the 1992 Constitution applies not only to conduct in physical spaces but also to behaviour online. They reminded listeners that citizens have the right to express themselves, but such rights must be exercised responsibly and with respect for the rights and dignity of others.
The pupils urged the public to think carefully before posting, sharing or commenting on content online. They cautioned against insults, false information, cyberbullying and any form of online conduct that could harm others or undermine national peace.
They also highlighted the importance of online safety, advising children and young people not to share personal information such as phone numbers, locations, passwords or other private details on digital platforms. They further encouraged young people to report any online activity that makes them feel unsafe to their parents, teachers or trusted adults.
The engagement reinforced the message that responsible digital citizenship is essential in today’s society, where many children and young people use the internet for learning, communication and social interaction.
The pupils concluded with a strong reminder to their peers and the general public that children may be young, but they are also citizens whose actions online matter to the development and peace of Ghana.
The NCCE Nandom Municipal Directorate noted that the annual Citizenship Week Celebration is designed to nurture civic consciousness among young people and build a culture of responsibility, respect for the Constitution and active citizenship from an early age.
