NCCE Kpone Katamanso Takes Citizenship Week Education to GBC Obonu TV

The Kpone Katamanso Municipal Office of the National Commission for Civic Education has undertaken a media sensitisation programme on GBC Obonu TV as part of activities marking the 2026 Citizenship Week Celebration.

The programme was held under the theme, “Growing Up Digital: The Ghanaian Child Upholding the Constitution Online.” It sought to educate the public on emerging digital threats in Ghana and promote responsible online behaviour, particularly among children and young people.

The Municipal Director of the NCCE, Mr. Seth Sotie, led the discussion and highlighted key issues such as misinformation, disinformation, cyberbullying, online abuse, and the need for responsible digital citizenship. He explained that the increasing use of social media and other digital platforms requires citizens to be more careful about the information they consume and share.

Mr. Sotie cautioned the public against spreading false information online, stressing that misinformation and disinformation can create fear, damage reputations, mislead communities, and undermine national cohesion. He urged citizens to verify information from credible sources before posting or forwarding content on digital platforms.

He further drew attention to the growing cases of online abuse targeting vulnerable groups, especially children and women. Mr. Sotie called on parents, teachers, community leaders, and other stakeholders to guide children in their use of digital platforms and help protect them from cyberbullying, exploitation, harmful content, and unsafe online interactions.

The programme also educated viewers on the importance of digital literacy, critical thinking, and ethical use of social media. Citizens were encouraged to respect the rights and dignity of others online and to use digital platforms to promote truth, tolerance, peace, and responsible citizenship.

The sensitisation formed part of the NCCE’s efforts to deepen civic awareness, protect children in the digital space, and encourage citizens to uphold constitutional values both online and offline.
