Students from some of Ghana’s leading tertiary institutions gathered at the University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC) in Dzorwulu on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, for the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) Inter-Tertiary Civic Education Clubs Symposium aimed at promoting civic responsibility and strengthening the fight against corruption among the youth.
The symposium, themed “Civic Engagements on the Rule of Law and the Fight Against Corruption,” brought together students from the University of Ghana, University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Heritage Christian University College, Pentecost University, and UniMAC.
The event focused on the important role young people play in promoting the rule of law, protecting democratic principles, and contributing to national development through active civic participation and ethical leadership.
Speakers at the symposium urged students to become ambassadors of integrity in their schools and communities by obeying the law, speaking out against corruption, and encouraging accountability at all levels of society. They stressed that the fight against corruption should not be left to state institutions alone but must also involve citizens, especially the youth, who represent the country's future.
Participants engaged in interactive discussions about the negative impact of corruption on governance, economic growth, and public trust, and shared ideas on how civic education can help shape responsible, informed citizens.
Students were encouraged to use their platforms and voices to promote transparency, patriotism, and responsible citizenship, both online and offline. The discussions also highlighted the need for young people to resist unethical practices and contribute positively to building a fair and just society.
Beyond the discussions, the symposium served as a platform for networking, collaboration, and idea-sharing among Civic Education Clubs from various tertiary institutions. Participants expressed optimism that such engagements would strengthen youth involvement in national development and inspire collective action against corruption in Ghana.
