NCCE INTENSIFIES EDUCATION ON SIM CARD RE-REGISTRATION EXERCISE

The Sunyani Municipal Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has intensified public sensitization activities for market women, traders, commuters, and passengers on the need to link their National ID card (Ghana Card) to their SIM cards. The programme was aimed at building citizens’ knowledge on the re-registration exercise to strengthen public awareness and encourage others to help achieve the purpose of the exercise.

During its civic education visits to lorry parks, market places, local/community information centres and bus stops in the municipality, the Sunyani Municipal Director, Benjamin Kyere, reminded the audience of the 31st July, 2022 deadline for the SIM Card registration exercise. He said it is the responsibility of every citizen 15 years and above who has acquired a National ID card to link it to the SIM card using the short code *404#.

Mr. Kyere said it the NCCE will continue to adopt strategies to reach out to citizens who are reluctant in obeying registration guidelines and implored the people to share the information with their members.

Participants commended the Commission for the public education efforts and appealed to the National Identification Authority to make the cards readily available to all. He also charged the Telecommunication companies to set up centres at nearby health facilities, electoral areas and if possible at the Churches and Mosques for easy registration during the biometric or second stage of the exercise.
