NCCE IN DORMAA INTENSIFIES EDUCATION ON VIOLENT EXTREMISM

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) with funding support from the European Union (EU) has undertaken a sensitization program with Identifiable Groups in the Dormaa Municipality. The groups include Artisans, Faith Based Organizations, Students, Political Parties, Youth Activists, and Assembly Members among others on Preventing and Containing Violent Extremism (PCVE). The program enlightened the citizenry to eschew all forms of violence and created awareness in identifying early warning signals of violent extremist activities and peace-building mechanisms. Communities targeted were Dormaa Ahenkro, Aboabo II, Kofibadukrom, Benekrom, Kokorosua, Nsuhia and Koraso.

It was revealed at the engagement, that there are many unapproved routes at Kofibadukrom that foreigners pass through into the country. After the education, community members promised to desist from aiding the influx of foreigners into the country but urged the security agencies to do their part in safeguarding the country’s peace and security.

The Municipal Director, Mr. Seth Broni Tagborloh advised the community members to monitor unfamiliar individuals as well as mentally challenged people roaming in the locality revealing that violent extremists mostly disguise themselves to monitor activities in target communities.

Other staff who served as resource persons are Sandra Obour Sarfowaa, Mr. Samuel Azerigo Adooya, and Mr. Patrick Adjei.
