As part of activities marking the 2026 Constitution Week celebration, the Asutifi North District Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Kenyasi, engaged officers of the Ghana Police Service on responsible digital citizenship and constitutional responsibility.
The engagement was held at the auditorium of the District Court. A total of 47 police officers participated in the meeting. Out of this number, 11 were female officers, representing 23 percent, while 36 were male officers, representing 77 percent.
The meeting was chaired by the District Police Commander, COP Yamoah, who welcomed the NCCE District Director and his team.
Addressing the officers, the Asutifi North District Director of the NCCE, Rev. Robert Collins Annam, spoke on the theme, “Upholding Our Constitution in a Digital Age: Our Collective Responsibility.”
Rev. Annam expressed concern about cyberbullying and other harmful online practices that negatively affect individuals and society. He noted that acts such as online scams, pornography, cyberbullying, and invasion of privacy undermine human dignity and violate the rights guaranteed under the 1992 Constitution.
Quoting Articles 18 and 26 of the Constitution, he explained that every citizen has the right to privacy and must also respect the rights, freedoms, and dignity of others. He therefore urged the Ghana Police Service to intensify efforts to combat cybercrime and ensure that perpetrators are arrested and dealt with according to the law.
The District Police Commander also advised citizens in the district to report cybercrime and related offences to the police for prompt investigation and action. He stated that the Cybercrime Unit of the Ghana Police Service has the capacity and technical tools to trace offenders.
Participants further recommended that an official request be made to the Government of Ghana to provide the necessary cybercrime detection tools to police commands across the districts to strengthen their ability to investigate and trace cyber offenders.
The meeting was attended by station heads, officers from the Police Training School, and personnel from various police stations within the Asutifi North District.
