The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has urged the Ghana Prisons Service to help promote peace in the country. The Commission made this appeal during an engagement with Service as part of the NCCE's annual Constitution Week Celebration at the Headquarters of the Ghana Prisons Service in Accra.
The NCCE Director of Programmes, Dr. Imurana Mohammed stressed the vital role the security agencies play in ensuring peaceful elections, entreating them to uphold citizens' rights while performing their duties.
He entreated the Officers not to compromise the peace we are enjoying for anything stating elections would come and go but they had a country to preserve.
He also expressed worries about the threat of fake news, misinformation disinformation and vote buying in the upcoming elections saying the Commission would intensify its sensitisation on these menaces.
Deputy Director General of Prisons, Finance and Administration, Patience Baffoe Bonnie (Esq), commended the NCCE for reminding the Officers of their duties to preserve peace in the country. “We are poised to take up our responsibility to protect the ballot boxes and promote peace”.
She also advised the Officers to extend what they have learnt from the engagement to their colleagues and families.
