NCCE, GIZ, EU and SECO Reinforce Women’s Role in Fighting Corruption and Promoting the Rule of Law in Nandom

The Nandom Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has held a follow-up educational campaign for women’s groups under the project, “Civic Engagements on the Rule of Law and the Fight Against Corruption.”

The engagement brought together 50 women from groups that participated in the initial campaign, including market women, hairdressers, dressmakers, women in cooperatives, faith-based groups, young women in apprenticeship, and others in the informal sector. The follow-up session was aimed at reinforcing knowledge gained during the first engagement and assessing how participants have applied the lessons in their daily lives.

Participants shared experiences on identifying and resisting corrupt practices and discussed challenges such as fear of victimisation and limited knowledge of reporting procedures. They were also taken through available legal protections and appropriate mechanisms for reporting suspected acts of corruption. The NCCE emphasised the importance of sustained civic engagement in translating awareness into action and empowering women to promote integrity, accountability and responsible citizenship within their families and communities.

The activity was organised under the Participation, Accountability and Integrity for a Resilient Democracy (PAIReD) programme, commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), co-financed by the European Union and the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), and implemented by GIZ in cooperation with Ghana’s Ministry of Finance.
