NCCE Ga West Joins Methodist Church Amasaman Circuit to Mark 2026 Citizenship Week Celebration

The Ga West Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education, in collaboration with the Methodist Church Amasaman Circuit, has commemorated the 2026 Citizenship Week Celebration with teenagers and youth of the Church at Amasaman.

The programme, held on Sunday, 31st May 2026, focused on the Citizenship Week theme, “Growing Up Digital: The Ghanaian Child Upholding the Constitution Online.” It sought to educate young people on responsible digital citizenship and the need to protect Ghana’s constitutional values in the online space.

The engagement brought together teenagers and youth of the Methodist Church to discuss key issues affecting children and young people in the digital age. These included misinformation, disinformation, cybercrime, digital fraud, cyberbullying, online abuse, and the responsible use of social media.

Speaking at the programme, Civic Education Officer, Mr. Castro Kofi Appiah, encouraged participants to verify information before sharing it online and to be mindful of the content they post, comment on, or forward on digital platforms. He reminded them that online actions can affect personal dignity, relationships, reputation, and the peace of society.

Mr. Appiah also urged the participants to respect the rights and dignity of others on social media and avoid using digital platforms to insult, mislead, bully, or harm others. He emphasised that every Ghanaian child and youth has a role to play in promoting truth, tolerance, discipline, and responsible citizenship in the digital age.

Resource persons for the engagement, Mrs. Edith Akpene-Awudor, Mr. Castro Kofi Appiah, and Mr. Prosper Missinou, highlighted the dangers associated with the spread of false information and online criminal activities. They encouraged the young participants to protect their personal information, avoid suspicious online links, report harmful online conduct, and become ambassadors of responsible digital behaviour in their homes, schools, churches, and communities.

The programme formed part of the NCCE’s annual Citizenship Week Celebration, which seeks to instil civic values, constitutional awareness, patriotism, and responsible citizenship among young people across the country.
