NCCE Engages Motor Riders at Anyanui in Anloga District on Adolescent Health, Gender Equality and Prevention of Gender-Based Violence

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in Anloga in collaboration with UNFPA and with financial support from Global Affairs Canada, organized a civic engagement and sensitization programme aimed at promoting adolescent health, gender equality, and preventing Gender-Based Violence (GBV) for boys and men, particularly motor riders and artisans. The program was held at the Anyanui market,

The engagement brought together motor riders at Anyanui and community members to discuss the important role men and boys play in creating safer and healthier communities. Participants were educated on issues affecting adolescents, including Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), harmful social norms, and the consequences of gender-based violence.

Ms Afetorgbor Emmanuella Woelikplim emphasized that GBV remains a serious social issue that affects individuals, families, and entire communities. Participants were encouraged to become advocates for respect, dignity, and equal opportunities for both males and females.

Ms Afetorgbor highlighted the importance of engaging men and boys as active partners in promoting behavioural change and reducing practices that negatively impact adolescent development and well-being. Motor riders and community members were encouraged to use their influence within their communities to educate their peers, challenge harmful stereotypes, and support the protection of adolescents and vulnerable groups.

Interactive discussions allowed participants to share experiences and explore practical ways of promoting peaceful coexistence, responsible behaviour, and community accountability. The engagement also strengthened awareness of the need for collective action and stakeholder participation in addressing social challenges.

Ms Afetorgbor reiterated that sustainable development can only be achieved when communities work together to uphold human rights, promote gender equality, and ensure that adolescents grow in safe and supportive environments.

This activity is implemented by NCCE in partnership with UNFPA and with financial support from Global Affairs Canada.
