NCCE ENGAGES GHANA REVENUE AUTHORITY, CUSTOMS DIVISION AHEAD OF THE 2024 ELECTIONS

The NCCE has intensified its engagement with security agencies as part of its 2024 Annual Constitution Week Celebration. The Commission held an interactive session with officers from the Ghana Revenue Authority (Customs Division) at their headquarters in Accra.

Dr. Imurana Mohammed, NCCE Programmes Director, stressed on the vital role security services play in ensuring peaceful elections by maintaining law and order.

"Democracy for us in Ghana has come to stay," he stated as he urged the officers to rise above partisan lines and uphold professional ethics throughout the elections.

Highlighting some of the issues that posed as potential threats in the upcoming general election, he cited the spillover of the extremist activities from neighboring countries, fake news and misinformation, as well as vote buying in politics which he condemned as illegal practices.

He also outlined some key programmes by the Commission ahead of the 2024 elections to include the conduct of a survey on the Matters of Concern to the Ghanaian Voter, Presidential and Parliamentary Candidates' Debates as well as an Inter-Party Dialogues Committee (IPDC) meetings to identify and resolve potential election-related conflicts.

He encouraged all stakeholders to uphold Ghana's democratic values and processes, noting that although challenges remain, the current multi-party system has been the most durable in the country's history so far.

On his part, the Chief Revenue Officer (CRO) at GRA-Customs Division, Charles Lumor, welcomed the engagement describing it as "a very good opportunity for all participants to situate themselves properly in the laws." He called on all officers to uphold and defend the Constitution diligently in their duties.
