The fight against corruption requires the collective commitment of all citizens, including faith-based organizations that play a vital role in shaping attitudes and values within society. In line with this objective, the Oyibi Zonal Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) engaged members of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Oyibi, in a public education programme on the National Anti-Corruption Action Plan (NACAP).
The engagement, held under the theme “National Ethics, Anti-Corruption and Action Plan (NEACAP)” , sought to raise awareness about the importance of integrity, accountability, patriotism, and responsible citizenship in promoting national development and combating corruption.
During the session, participants were educated on the significance of ethical conduct in both public and private life. Resource persons emphasized that integrity and accountability are fundamental values that contribute to good governance, transparency, and sustainable development. They noted that corruption undermines national progress, weakens public trust in institutions, and deprives citizens of essential services and opportunities.
Furthermore, members were introduced to the objectives of the National Anti-Corruption Action Plan (NACAP), which serves as Ghana’s strategic framework for preventing, detecting, and combating corruption. The facilitators explained that the plan promotes a coordinated national approach involving government institutions, civil society organizations, religious bodies, and citizens in the fight against corruption.
In addition, the programme highlighted the crucial role of religious institutions in shaping moral behaviour and promoting ethical values within communities. Participants were encouraged to uphold honesty, discipline, fairness, and patriotism in their daily activities while serving as role models within their families, workplaces, and society at large.
The facilitators also stressed the importance of responsible citizenship, urging participants to actively support initiatives that promote transparency and accountability. They noted that every citizen has a role to play in safeguarding public resources and fostering a culture of integrity.
The programme featured an interactive session during which participants shared their views, experiences, and concerns regarding corruption and ethical conduct in society. The discussions provided an opportunity for meaningful engagement and enhanced participants’ understanding of the issues presented.
In conclusion, members of the Christ Apostolic Church were encouraged to uphold ethical values, demonstrate integrity in all their dealings, and support national efforts aimed at preventing and combating corruption. The NCCE reaffirmed its commitment to promoting civic education and strengthening citizens’ participation in building a transparent, accountable, and corruption-free society.
