NCCE Educates Inchaban Pupils on Nkrumah’s Role in Ghana’s Independence

The Shama Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has engaged pupils and teachers of Inchaban Methodist “A” and “B” Junior High Schools on Ghana’s independence struggle and the role played by Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

The civic education program was on the theme, “The Journey to Ghana’s Independence – The Role of Dr Kwame Nkrumah.” It was organized ahead of Nkrumah Memorial Day, observed on Monday, September 21, to deepen participants’ understanding of Ghana’s struggle for independence.

The Officer-in-Charge of the Shama NCCE Office, Miss Grace Ahenakwah, who led the engagement, took the pupils through key milestones in Ghana’s journey to self-rule, highlighting Dr Nkrumah’s significant contribution to the attainment of independence on March 6, 1957.

She also discussed Dr Nkrumah’s political, socio-economic and ideological contributions to Ghana’s development, as well as his vision for national unity, African independence and continental development.

Miss Ahenakwah encouraged the pupils to learn from the resilience, patriotism and commitment demonstrated by Ghana’s independence leaders and to develop a strong sense of responsibility towards the country.

She urged them to take an active interest in Ghana’s history, noting that knowledge of the country’s past was essential to nurturing responsible citizens capable of contributing positively to national development.

The engagement also sought to promote patriotism, national unity and civic responsibility among the pupils, while strengthening their appreciation of Ghana’s independence and the sacrifices made by the country’s founding generation.

The program forms part of the NCCE’s continuous civic education efforts to promote national consciousness, patriotism and responsible citizenship among young people, particularly in connection with national commemorative occasions.
