NCCE continues sensitization on District Level Elections

Elections make a fundamental contribution to democratic governance in any given state that believes and practices democracy. Not only do elections reinforce the stability and legitimacy of the political community, but it also offer voters the opportunity to have their say and through expressing partisanship, they satisfy their need to feel a sense of belonging to one political ideology or the other.

Considering the critical role elections have played in the democratic history of Ghana, the Sekyere Kumawu District Office, Ashanti Region set out with renewed zeal to intensify education on the District Level Elections (DLEs)– an activity that received full concentration in the previous quarter.

With the scheduled election date drawing closer, the goal of the office was to adequately prepare the citizens of Kumawu by further exposing them to the required civic knowledge, skills, and disposition needed for active participation in the DLEs to address the issue of low voter turnout observed in previous DLEs. Among the topics treated were; Understanding the structure of the District Assembly; the importance of DLEs; Voting rights; the Voting Process and the need to participate in Local Governance.

The office engaged various groups such as faith-based organizations, identifiable groups, information centers, civil service organizations, and individuals on the aforementioned topics and received remarkable feedback from the populace.
