NCCE connects with ECOWAS

Management of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has called on the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) as part of stakeholder engagements to strengthen ties and nurture alliances.

The rendezvous, which took place at the ECOWAS Office in Ghana, was purposed to serve as a platform for the two institutions to officially meet and discuss plausible areas of future partnerships and collaborations that would benefit both parties.

The Chairman of the NCCE, who doubled as head of the delegation, Ms. Kathleen Addy, highlighted NCCE’s core values and mandate, as the 1992 Constitution provides. She also expressed utmost gratitude to ECOWAS for their immense contribution towards the Commission’s 2024 election-related activities.

Ms. Addy, having touched on the structure and goals of the Commission, was quick to point out the expediency in ensuring a lasting relationship between both organisations, emphasizing the conduiting role of ECOWAS to reaching other sister countries.

She revealed plans of the Commission to hold a civic education forum among all member-states of ECOWAS with an established Civic Education body, adding that the forum will act as a springboard to broadening the civic education conversation while serving as a pool of ideas which participating countries can choose from and tailor to suit their respective jurisdictions.

The Resident Representative of ECOWAS in Ghana, Ambassador Mohammed Lawan Gana, in his welcome remarks, advanced appreciation to the Commission for the gesture and the trailblazing concept, which according to him can induce a paradigm shift on the African continent when it eventually sees the light of day.

The Ambassador additionally commended NCCE for its tremendous role in extending voter education to the citizenry during the 2024 electioneering year. Without hesitation, he indicated that the Commission’s ability to aptly live up to its mandate largely contributes to the peace that continues to prevail subsequent to the 2024 General Election. He also pledged the support of ECOWAS to the operations of the Commission.

In the company of Ms. Kathleen Addy were the Deputy Chairman in charge of General Services, Lawyer Victor Brobbey, and the Commission Secretary, Mrs. Lucille Hewlett Annan.
