NCCE meets PPP as part of its 2024 Consultative Visits to political parties

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has begun its consultative visits to political parties in the wake of the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections this December.

Management met with the executives of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) in Accra. The meeting aimed to seek collaboration with the party at all levels of governance to advance the message of peaceful elections to their followers to deepen awareness alongside public education by the NCCE.

Raising highlights for education, Chairperson of NCCE, Ms. Kathleen Addy stated the cankers, misinformation, disinformation and fake news in the media space; money in politics; religious intolerance and the use of violence and abusive language before, during and after elections.

She outlined the Commission’s activities and plans for the year and stressed on the need for political parties to play active roles in ensuring a peaceful election this year and promote civic education in their campaigns.

The Deputy Chairman in Charge of Operations, NCCE, Mr. Asare Akuamoah spoke about the nature and structure of the Commission, its human resource and capacity at the grassroots and the NCCE’s progress over the years in the Civic Education space.

The Deputy Chairman, General Services, Victor Brobbey explained the provision of the Constitution that mandates the Commission to be independent and non-partisan.

Also present at the meeting were Senior officials of the Progressive People’s Party together with Directors and Deputy Directors from NCCE, Head Office, Accra.
