NCCE Akuapem South Leads Students in Clean-Up Exercise to Promote Environmental Responsibility

A clean environment does not happen by chance; it begins with the choices we make every day. In line with this, the Akuapem South Municipal Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) organized a clean-up exercise on 9 July 2026 at the premises and surrounding areas of M/A JHS, Obodan.

The exercise aimed to promote environmental consciousness among students and encourage collective responsibility for maintaining a clean and healthy environment.

Before the exercise began, Mrs. Christiana Matey, Assistant Director, urged the students and teachers to protect and safeguard the environment, as enshrined in Article 41(k) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana. She further emphasized that humans have a symbiotic relationship with the environment and, therefore, have a responsibility to protect it.

Following the engagement, students, teachers, and other participants actively cleaned the school compound and its surrounding areas. Through the exercise, participants were encouraged to adopt good sanitation practices and recognize that protecting the environment requires the collective efforts of individuals and communities.

The activity therefore served as a practical avenue for instilling environmental consciousness among the students while reinforcing the importance of civic responsibility in creating a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment.
