Kumasi Academy Civic Education Club Launches Magazine and Inducts New Leaders

Civic leadership, student participation, and responsible digital conduct were brought into focus when the Kumasi Academy Civic Education Club held a programme to launch its magazine and officially hand over leadership to newly appointed club executives.

The event was organized by the Kumasi Academy Civic Education Club, with support from the Asokore Mampong Municipal Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE). Mr. Awal Iddrisu of the Kumasi Metro Office of the NCCE honoured the invitation to participate in the ceremony and engage members of the club.

Held at Kumasi Academy, the programme brought together students, school authorities, club patrons and invited guests to celebrate the achievements of the club and mark a smooth transition of leadership following the completion of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination by the outgoing executives.

As part of the ceremony, the club launched its magazine, which is expected to serve as a platform for promoting civic knowledge, student expression and awareness of national values among learners. The magazine also reflects the club’s commitment to encouraging students to take an interest in citizenship, leadership, constitutionalism and national development.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Awal Iddrisu commended the Civic Education Club for sustaining civic education activities within the school. He encouraged members to see themselves as young ambassadors of good citizenship and positive change.

He used the platform to speak on digital responsibility, civic values, and respect for divergent views. Mr. Iddrisu advised the students to use digital platforms responsibly, avoid harmful online conduct and recognize that their behaviour online can affect their personal reputation, school image and future opportunities.

On civic values, he urged the students to demonstrate discipline, patriotism, tolerance, honesty, and respect for authority. He further emphasized that respect for divergent views is essential in a democratic society, adding that young people must learn to disagree without insults, intimidation or hostility.

Madam Sarah Ansah, Assistant Headmistress in charge of Domestic Affairs, who spoke on behalf of the Headmaster, pledged the school’s continued support for the Civic Education Club. She commended the club for its contribution to student development and encouraged members to serve as good examples to their peers.

She further urged the newly inducted leaders to discharge their duties with humility, commitment, and a strong sense of responsibility. According to her, leadership at the school level offers students an opportunity to develop character, confidence, and service-oriented attitudes.

Also present at the programme were the school Chaplain, Rev. Kwame Amanda, and the club patrons, Mr. Kofi Agyapong, Madam Catherine Makafui and Mr. Ebenezer Dontor.

The programme ended with a call on members of the Kumasi Academy Civic Education Club to continue promoting civic awareness, responsible leadership and respect for democratic values within the school community.
